When I speak to women about the benefits of a pelvic bowl yoga practice, as I say the words “pelvic bowl ” they often look at me a bit perplexed.
When I elaborate, “I help women mitigate the physiological and anatomical side effects of peri-memopause and menopause” they smile and often say “Oh, I could use that”.
I don’t even have to list the benefits; they get how my work will help them feel better in their bodies.
And yet, listing the benefits is a good reminder that women come to pelvic bowl yoga for different reasons. I work women in their 30’s wanting to get ahead of peri-menopause. I work with women in their 70’s for whom menopause was lost in the dust years ago. I also work with a growing posse of young women in their twenties whose body armoring and pelvic tension is preventing them from getting pregnant. Feeling uncomfortable in their body is what all these women have in common. For some it’s dealing with physical discomfort, every thing from body aches to wild mood swings.
